It really doesn't sound like 'hot-and-cold' to me it sounds like he is consistently cold towards you because he is faithful to his girlfriend (or he is creeped out by you?) try to be more distant towards him - then he won't feel the need to be so defensive around you.

the attraction is that he is it's purely shallow. And my first instinct was that he was a decent guy. I thought, well, I shouldn't date anyone at work and he is slow to warm up to most people. However, I have tried to initiate a friendship because he has a few times been friendly enough and he is smart. I haven't tried that hard.
