The scary thing - or scary thing is the bland, implacable uniformity the GOP is exhibiting. Every single Republican politician interviewed today said almost the exact same soundbite, word for word, about how they are listening to "the voice of the people" and how they will only work with Democrats if the Dems listen to "the voice of the people." Which, loosely translated, means the "voice of the people who agree with the Tea Party." I fear we are or three short (goose)steps away from fascism. The conservatives have been spending all their energy stalling any forward momentum Obama might have had, and the Dems are stuck doing damage control. Meanwhile the country circles the drain. In a way this is scarier than when Bush was president.

But ... we got Kitzhaber! Whew.

Yeah, that was a nail-biter! At least the misguided ex-NBA player who thinks our minimum wage is "too high" didn't end up being our governor!

it's unbelievable I wonder if some of these people no longer have brains. or if it's not so much about SERVING the people as it is about CONTROLING them. I think that many of these conservatives and tea party-ists don't actually care about what they say, they just want as many people as possible to hear them.

I'd still get married, regardless of what anyone has to say about it. now that things are in the Red; I yelled at the tv, at my new gov't who doesn't believe a women's righ to choose, I yelled, " you keep your hands off of my body," that scares me. i'll keep an eye on that shit.

SciFy - I think its great that you'd get married if you wanted to, but know that from a financial/planning/legal/survivorship standpoint, you'd have exactly **zero** rights as a couple. The amount of paperwork to ensure your partnership is staggering.

i know, I get angry about the stupid laws and how it screws around with our lives. if the politicians, want money ect. they'd make a zillion dollars just on the licenses, and not to mention, the lawyers, would make big bucks just on the divorces... its so fustrating. It is a wakeup for sure. I was proud that this year I had my progressive friends over for a night of debate and voting preparation. I'm going to do that again next time AND MORE. I hadn't had time to review the judicial candidates before this past election. of them was author of the minority opinion against gay marriage. I happily voted NO on his confirmation. But if I had done that research earlier, I would have been able to sway the opinions of my friends and family too.

interesting. Are these all judges? We have some crappy judges here in MA. I understand the theory behind people reconfirming the appointed judges, clearly in this case something went awry. It's strange to me to have a judge campaign, but the old boys network we've got going on in MA sucks, too. Right now I have no faith in the voters.

Heavy sigh Once again proof that politics is a game of the low road. The Judges did not mount a campaign to keep their jobs, feeling that it was repugnant to mix election realities with judicial duties. The campaign against them totally ignored that they did exactly what their job requires of them, they put personal ideals aside and decided the case on its merits with respect to the state Constitution. For them to do otherwise would be no different then a judge finding a murderer not guilty on grounds of "he seemed nice".
