tips on firing my lawyer Hi guys- it's been a while. I hired my lawyer to finish my last step in the divorce I filed for x x/x years ago a year ago in January. She has been useless. It took her x months to get him to serve me the financial information he needed to in order for us to request a final judgement. Then she FORGOT to send me the financial paperwork (he served it on me via her in September) until I contacted her in late October to ask what was up? She didn't respond to s nor emails. I finally sent her an email threatening lawsuit if she didn't respond and she finally ed me. I forgave her. She finally sent me a draft of the judgement and it has NOTHING in it that I have specified I am asking for- it's like a text book judgement. I only have a couple of items that need tweaking and when I told her, again I received no response. After two weeks of not hearing from her I wrote her and said I was done and requested the remaining retainer I had in my account be refunded as well as requested another amount on top of that (not that I will get it, but whatev) and that she forward my file to me. Surprise surprise I haven't heard from her yet again. My question is this: what do I have to do to hire a new lawyer? Nothing? If I wanted to try and finish this on my own, do I need her to do anything to tell the courts I have dismissed her (she has filed a couple of things as my representation)? Thanks for reading. I am so very frustrated and I need this to be finished as there are complications coming my way that I can't have involved in the divorce.
